Symcharcha-The Annual Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition 2021

SYMVAAD- The Debating Vertical of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, NOIDA proudly organised Symcharcha on 19th and 20th of March 2021. The event is amongst one of the flagship events of SCMS, NOIDA. It was the 7th edition of Symcharcha-The Annual Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition this year which was organised at a level never like before.

This year the event followed the conventional debating format where we had various individuals from in and around the Delhi NCR circuit battling against each other to win this prestigious competition. The core adjudicators of the event were Abhipsha Bharadwaj, Deepansh Jawrani and Tanmay Mehra.

The first day of the event was kick-started by the inaugural video of Symcharcha with the highlights of previous events of the debating society followed by the lighting of the auspicious ceremonial lamp. The lamp lighting was followed by the welcome address of the Head of the Literary Club, Ms. Rupashi Sehgal wherein she talked about the role and importance of debating and how it provides food for thought and improves the overall personality of the person. The Event Coordinator Ms. Yoshita Pathania addressed the participants and talked about her journey within the debating society and the activities carried out by them in society. The Faculty-In charge of Symcharcha Prof. Narendra Singh Chaudhary shared his thoughts about how well the OC had organised the event and talked about the importance and relevance of debating in today’s time. Next, we had Dr. Shikha Singh, the Head of the Student Affairs Council who addressed the participants and motivated them to bring out the best of their abilities. This was followed by the address of our Deputy Director Dr. Nidhi Phutela and the Guest of Honour Director, Dr. K.P. Venugopala Rao who talked about the relevance of debating in today’s era and insisted on the right way of debating.

All the participants were given different codes. The motion for the Preliminary round was – This house believes that the Quad Partnership will prove to be an effective counterweight against China’s expansionist policies in the South East Asian Region

The semi-finals and finals were held on the second day i.e. 20th March 2021. The final round of the debate began with motion-This house believes that National Parties (BJP, INC) should not be allowed to contest state elections. After all the intense arguments between the finalists IPCW1 and ABC1, the debating event marked its completion. 

It was followed by a closing ceremony with the announcement of the winner by the core adjudicators. Ms. Subiya Asad and Mr. Arshpreet Kadiyal were declared as the winners and a cash prize worth Rs. 5000 was distributed amongst the winners.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Event Coordinator Ms. Yoshita Pathania and the closing speeches by the Faculty-In charge Prof. Narendra Singh Chaudhary and Dr. Shikha Singh, Head of the Student Affairs Council and Deputy Director Dr. Nidhi Phutela.
