An Online Teaching Campaign During COVID-19 Pandemic

Volunteering is always a great decision! Sharing your time and talents with those who need it most on the other side is one of the most rewarding experiences you can ever take part in. Volunteer teaching is an incredible opportunity to make a long-lasting impact on future generations by helping them to improve their futures.

People choose volunteer teaching for a variety of reasons. For some, it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others, it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites us above them all is that we found it both challenging and rewarding.

Parimal Pathshala teaching campaign started by our college is a great initiative to provide education and develop knowledge and skills of children from our nearby areas who cannot afford private school tutoring. In this crucial situation where the deadly coronavirus is spreading, we the students of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies (SCMS Noida) followed the motto of our college “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” i.e. the world is one family, and decided to collaborate with Parimal Pathshala and help them by providing education using the technology available to us i.e. by the use of videos, audios, and mobiles. We decided to help these children by devoting our time and energy to their welfare, for their growth, and for their bright future. These students are having great capacity but just lack someone who could help them polish their skills. Therefore, we decided to give them a helping hand in this current situation where the local schools are not able to provide them with the required education as education is one of the most important factors in a human’s life.

All you need is energy and enthusiasm! When we learned that we didn’t require any previous teaching experience or certifications to join Parimal Pathshala volunteer teaching programs, we became very excited. We just needed to be enthusiastic and resourceful to use the materials at our disposal to create fun, interactive lessons that encourage students to speak English.

It is also a great opportunity for any one of us looking to develop a career in education or childcare because the experience will be a great boost to our resume!

Our major motivation was that by teaching a local class and getting to know every student, we will soon become an important part of their day-to-day lives. This is an extraordinary opportunity to make a long-lasting contribution to their lives. Our encouragement, praise, and interactive lessons are often all that is needed to spark their interest and desire to learn more in the current situation of the country

When we came to know that we’ll be teaching the subjects in English, we became even more enthusiastic as currently developing an interest to learn and practice English is crucial for children, as it will open future professional opportunities.

It may not be a mandatory requirement, but by gaining some school experience we'll develop a valuable insight into teaching. Having this experience will also strengthen our application and prepare us for potential interviews. Volunteering at college will provide:

  • Make a difference in the life of others

  • Feel valued and part of a team

  • Gain confidence

  • Gaining new skills, knowledge, and experience

  • A chance to socialize

  • Getting to know the local community.

  • Knowledge of the national curriculum/education system

  • Evidence of our commitment

  • Examples that we can use at the interview, such as small group leading and lesson planning.
